Bob Evans unveils grilling sausages with more snap

Columbus, Ohio-based Bob Evans has re-launched its line of sausages suitable for the grill, this time sporting a new casing intended to increase appeal to consumers, the company said.

Gone is the links' old casing, made of collagen, in favor of an all-natural casing, company spokeswoman Amanda Murphy told Meatingplace. The new casing is thinner, and that produces a satisfying 'snap' when hungry diners bite into it, she said.

In addition, the production process has been changed so that the finished links are curved. Consumers indicated in research that they expected the types of brats and Italian sausage that Bob Evans produced for its grilling line to have a curved appearance, Murphy said.

The re-launched line includes bratwurst, hot bratwurst, beer bratwurst, hot Italian sausage and sweet Italian sausage. A 19-oz. package sells for a suggested retail price of $4.89.
